Michel Farley, President and Chief Executive Officer
Recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Technology category, Michel Farley is a seasoned businessman and a born entrepreneur. He founded Varitron Technologies in 1991 with fewer than half a dozen employees.
In a highly complex and competitive industry, Varitron Technologies stood out immediately, thanks to superior production quality and strong customer commitment. Michel very quickly made his presence felt within the company, making sure to be personally involved in all facets of production. Today, he is at the helm of a company experiencing strong growth despite the clouds of uncertainty hanging over the global economy. Varitron Technologies, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2011, is now Québec’s largest electronics assembly company, according to Les Affaires newspaper.
Dedicated to helping the community, he just started the social project Réussite Rive-Sud to prevent school dropout and is actively involved with a consultation group to stimulate entrepreneurship in Québec. Over the years, he has also contributed to the growth of several startup companies.
Patrice Lavoie, Vice President – Sales and Business Developement
Patrice is a results-driven executive with more than 17 years of experience in the industry. He worked previously with CMC Electronics and Ultra Electronics, and he has solid experience in technology transfer and military applications.
Patrice has IPC Class 3 training and is an active IPC and SMTA member. Patrice’s former positions (business unit manager, director of operations, supply chain manager and others) have enabled him to build an extensive understanding of how to align Varitron’s manufacturing and supply-chain strategies with customers’ needs.
Joelle Bellavance, M.Sc., CHRP, Vice President, Human Resources Director
A member of the Ordre des CRHA, Joelle has more than fifteen years of experience in human resources management in manufacturing and institutional organizations. She has made her mark as a business partner aligned with organizational needs. With a master’s degree in human resources management from HEC Montréal and a bachelor’s degree in psychology, she always strives to place the human being at the heart of decision-making. Having worked at PwC, ÉTS, Tembec and Mitchel-Lincoln Packaging, she has been contributing diligently to Varitron’s growth for the past eight years by bringing her professional experience, her passion for people development and her creative touch.
Alain Cloutier, Ing.,PMP, Engineering Director
Alain Cloutier has nearly 20 years of experience as a manager in various engineering, operations and project management environments in the high technology field. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, a PMP (Project Management Professional) certification and he is a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
Prior to joining Varitron, Mr. Cloutier developed his expertise and experience in the development and manufacture of electronic products and embedded systems as a TCMS (Train Control & Management System) Manager at Bombardier Transportation and as Industrial Manager at Kontron Canada. Previously, he held management positions at Mindready Solutions, providing testing engineering services and embedded systems in the high-tech field.
Ruth Fay, Vice President, Manufacturing Operations
Ruth Fay is an experienced manager who has worked for more than 20 years in SMEs and large manufacturing companies. She holds two bachelor’s degrees, one in Business Administration and one in Industrial Engineering. She is also a member in good standing of the Quebec Order of Engineers.
In her career, Ruth has worked in a variety of fields including Quality, Continuous Improvement, Introduction of New Products and Production. A fervent practitioner of value-added management (lean management & lean manufacturing), she was responsible for production in a mass manufacturing company (Mabe) and also has to her credit the establishment of a new factory on American soil. (Demers).
