Michel Farley, President and Chief Executive Officer
Recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Technology category, Michel Farley is a seasoned businessman and a born entrepreneur. He founded Varitron Technologies in 1991 with fewer than half a dozen employees.
In a highly complex and competitive industry, Varitron Technologies stood out immediately, thanks to superior production quality and strong customer commitment. Michel very quickly made his presence felt within the company, making sure to be personally involved in all facets of production. Today, he is at the helm of a company experiencing strong growth despite the clouds of uncertainty hanging over the global economy. Varitron Technologies, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2011, is now Québec’s largest electronics assembly company, according to Les Affaires newspaper.
Dedicated to helping the community, he just started the social project Réussite Rive-Sud to prevent school dropout and is actively involved with a consultation group to stimulate entrepreneurship in Québec. Over the years, he has also contributed to the growth of several startup companies.
Fabio Ferrarini, Vice President, Customer Experience
Fabio Ferrarini has 20 years experience and expertise in high flow manufacturing, mechanical design, quality systems and plant management. Through his roles as Quality Director and Plant Manager, he has led numerous strategies and initiatives that had major positive impact on operations, cost and customer satisfaction while empowering his team associates to flourish and outperform themselves.
Fabio Ferrarini holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from École Polytechnique of Montreal, a Major in Engineering Management from Sherbrooke University, and is a GE-trained Six Sigma Black Belt. He is a member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.
Patrice Lavoie, Vice President – Sales and Business Developement
Patrice is a results-driven executive with more than 17 years of experience in the industry. He worked previously with CMC Electronics and Ultra Electronics, and he has solid experience in technology transfer and military applications.
Patrice has IPC Class 3 training and is an active IPC and SMTA member. Patrice’s former positions (business unit manager, director of operations, supply chain manager and others) have enabled him to build an extensive understanding of how to align Varitron’s manufacturing and supply-chain strategies with customers’ needs.
Mario Leblanc, Chief Transformation Officer
Mario has a proven track record in creating, growing and transforming local and international businesses in highly competitive industries. As Varitron’s Chief Transformation Officer, he is responsible for planning, communicating and implementing the overall strategic plan. Mario is also driving internal and external initiatives aimed at expanding the corporate capabilities while increasing the value and the innovation strength of the company through a positive change leadership.
Prior to joining Varitron, Mario created successfully Vector7 to help organizations to reach their business goals on an ongoing basis. He also led Keyrus, an international organization specializing in integrated consulting and technology services. Prior to Keyrus, he founded Inverse Consulting Group and made it a leading player in the development of tools, infrastructures and IT solutions.
Mario is known for his commitment to delivering results-oriented solutions, his ability to move from vision to action, and his communication skills.
Jon Saunders, Vice President, US Operations
Jon Saunders has over 25 years’ experience in electronics manufacturing. Jon has held leadership positions in several Global Contract Manufacturers and has brought both small and large organizations through times of transition and growth. Jon also has industry experience in PCB fabrication, Microelectronics, and Explosive Trace Detection equipment. Jon has proven expertise in Operational Excellence, Quality Systems, and creative Supply Chain strategies.
Joelle Bellavance, M.Sc., CHRP, Vice President, Human Resources Director
A member of the Ordre des CRHA, Joelle has more than fifteen years of experience in human resources management in manufacturing and institutional organizations. She has made her mark as a business partner aligned with organizational needs. With a master’s degree in human resources management from HEC Montréal and a bachelor’s degree in psychology, she always strives to place the human being at the heart of decision-making. Having worked at PwC, ÉTS, Tembec and Mitchel-Lincoln Packaging, she has been contributing diligently to Varitron’s growth for the past eight years by bringing her professional experience, her passion for people development and her creative touch.
François Lambin, Assurance Quality Director
Graduated with a Metallurgical Engineering degree, François Lambin has now been in the quality field for more than 30 years. He supported world-class organizations (in aeronautics, automotive, petroleum, bottling equipment, metal fabrication, food, etc.) by implementing and developing rigorous, yet pragmatic, quality management systems that were genuine management tools to achieve stretched goals and ensure the satisfaction of demanding customers. With such an auditor, trainer, consultant, manager and executive background, he always ensures that the individual is at the heart of a Varitron’s success in satisfying our customer needs and expectations.
Alain Cloutier, Ing.,PMP, Engineering Director
Alain Cloutier has nearly 20 years of experience as a manager in various engineering, operations and project management environments in the high technology field. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, a PMP (Project Management Professional) certification and he is a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.
Prior to joining Varitron, Mr. Cloutier developed his expertise and experience in the development and manufacture of electronic products and embedded systems as a TCMS (Train Control & Management System) Manager at Bombardier Transportation and as Industrial Manager at Kontron Canada. Previously, he held management positions at Mindready Solutions, providing testing engineering services and embedded systems in the high-tech field.
Leah Slaughter, Vice-President Supply Chain and AI Program
Leah has over 20 years of extensive experience in Supply Chain and redesigning end-to-end supply chains evaluating where supply chain resources are best deployed to maximize company revenue and improve customer delivery performance by using an assessment of strategic risk for the company through strategic sourcing, demand intake, supply chain management, procurement, materials management, manufacturing, logistics and customer service. Leah’s experience with component distribution at Future Electronics, various multinational EMS providers, such as,SMTC, BreconRidge, Sanmina, Celestica, Jabil and OEM’s as well as consulting for Supply Chain process and applications has allowed her to share her knowledge and manage teams of up to 200+ people. Graduating with honours and on the Dean’s List, Leah received Diploma’s in Materials Management & Distribution and Marketing & Business Administration from Sir Sandford Fleming College.
